What is Resveratrol?

Overview

Resveratrol is a natural polyphenol - a class of rare and powerful antioxidants found in wine, mulberry, and nuts, with the added benefit of anti-inflammatory properties, and thus an effective ingredient to guard the skin against multiple aging pathways. While free radical induced aging has been well documented and more widely known by the general public, a lesser known aging factor that stems from inflammation of the skin - known as inflamm-aging - has gained much attention through a series of studies proving such so.

It is caused by the accumulation of DNA damage in skin cells, triggered by stress, lifestyles such as smoking, unprotected exposure to UV, and natural course of cellular aging. Resveratrol can counter pro-inflammatory signals in our skin, thereby minimizing inflammatory responses and their associated damages to cells.

Derivatives/ Variations

There are 2 different configurations of resveratrol - cis and trans - present in nature:

Cis-Resveratrol: less stable and bioactive form of resveratrol

Trans-Resveratrol: the form that has higher estrogenic activity, more stable, and confer higher anti-aging benefits

Ferulic Acid

a natural antioxidant found in plant and seeds, known to stabilize other antioxidants and increase their free radical scavenging abilities when combined; also found to neutralize common pollutants in the environment, as well as prevent cellular damage from UV rays.

with strong support that peptides have the ability to penetrate the skin to activate protein synthesis, the benefits of this ingredient are most notably increasing the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid in the skin, working with resveratrol to form a more complete anti-aging routine.
