What is Lycopene?
Skin Type: Combination, normal, dry
Skin Concern: Hyperpigmentation, loss of elasticity
Overview

Lycopene is a type of carotenoid present in red fruits that not only gives them their red hue, but also a powerful antioxidant that confers exceptional radical scavenging benefits when consumed or applied. It is an oil soluble ingredient that reduces oxidative stress of the skin caused by UV radiation and pollution, further preventing lipid peroxidation of vital structural and functional skin components in order to maintain its health. In regards to UV protection, Lycopene demonstrated anti-inflammatory actions by suppressing inflammatory markers triggered by UV, thereby proving its ability to soothe UV related skin irritation. Further studies have shown that Lycopene also has moisture retention properties, relieving symptoms of skin dryness and dehydration while improving skin texture.
Derivatives/ Variations
Naturally derived from plant sources: including tomatoes, papayas, pink grapefruits…etc; natural extract contains a few variations of lycopene, having synergistic effect along with other antioxidants such as tocopherols and carotenoids present in the natural plant extract.
Synthetically made in laboratory: high purity of lycopene and produced more economically; in the absence of the natural variations of lycopenes as well as the other naturally present antioxidants, free radical scavenging effects may be compromised.
Ingredient with Synergistic Effects
Red Raspberry Seed
a lightweight oil extracted from red raspberry seeds with a rich amount of ellagitannin, omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids, and polyunsaturated fats to nourish, protect, smoothen and rejuvenate the skin. Works in complementary ways with Lycopene to boost free radical scavenging properties and prevent premature skin ageing.
Vitamin A
a potent ingredient as our cells have receptors to directly absorb and convert the ingredient into usable form upon entering the skin. Influences cellular expression to normalize skin thickness by adjusting speed of cellular turnover, improving a plethora of skin conditions such as regeneration, rejuvenation, diminishing hyperpigmentation…etc. Optimizes age prevention effects when combined with Lycopene in a routine that targets loss of elasticity.
