What is Vitamin A?

Skin Type: For most skin types depending on which derivative; people with rosacea and eczema should use with care. Not suitable to be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Skin Concern: Hyperpigmentation, premature ageing, dullness, acne

Overview

A potent ingredient as our cells have receptors to directly absorb and convert the ingredient into usable form upon entering the skin. Influences cellular expression to normalize skin thickness by adjusting speed of cellular turnover, improving a plethora of skin conditions such as those listed above.

Derivatives/ Variations

Retinoic Acid

prescription grade and most potent form to treat moderate to severe acne, photoaged skin, and psoriasis. Common side effects includes dryness and prone to irritation, and is recommended for use under guidance of a dermatologist

Retinal, Retinol

takes 1-2 steps to be converted into Retinoic Acid, side effects are greatly minimized, suitable for most skin types and tolerated by sensitive-prone skin to improve a variety of skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation, skin dullness, congestion and mild acne.

Retinol Ester, Retinyl Palmitate

even gentler than Retinal and Retinol but with slower and less potent effects. Suitable for very sensitive skin or sensitive-prone skin first being introduced to using Vitamin A in their skincare routine

Ingredient with Synergistic Effects

Bakuchiol

Complements the skin brightening and regenerative benefits of retinol while its gentle nature makes it suitable to be used by all skin types, with the added benefits of delivering anti-oxidizing effects.

Hyaluronic Acid

due to potential drying of skin when using retinol, Hyaluronic Acid rehydrates the skin by increasing moisture retention, with the added benefit of increasing skin suppleness.

Sustainability Features of Vitamin A in Skin Need formulas

  • The Vitamin A derivative type used in Skin Need formulas is Retinol in lipid encapsulation for enhanced penetration into skin. Although the retinal used in Skin Need formulas are generated from plant-based beta-carotene of non-GMO sources and known to be biodegradable, there is a slither of evidence that this ingredient may accumulate in the environment when it is not disposed properly. With clear and safe disposal instructions written in our GMP protocols, Skin Need commits to its proper disposal to reduce environmental impact.
